Construction (excavation) of a drainage tunnel between chambers K-8 and K-19 is underway
In the city of Ashgabat, the implementation of a large-scale infrastructure project for the construction of an underground collector system with a diameter of 3.0 meters is ongoing. The project is aimed at reducing groundwater levels and enhancing the reliability of urban development. Its implementation will make it possible to lower the groundwater level by 4–6 meters, which is of strategic importance for the sustainable development of urban infrastructure and the protection of underground and above-ground facilities.
The project includes the construction of two main collectors:
- the “Gurbansoltan” collector with a length of 6,506.0 meters;
- the “Choganly – Garadamak” collector with a length of 9,875.26 meters.
The total length of the underground structures is 16,381.26 meters.
To date, 37% of the drainage collector tunnelling works have been completed.
The Herrenknecht M-2566 tunnel boring machine (TBM) is carrying out tunnelling operations on the section between chambers K-8 and K-19, where 529 meters have been completed out of the planned 869 meters. The tunnelling is performed in a mechanized mode using modern high-tech equipment, ensuring accuracy, safety, and stability of the construction process.
The works are carried out with simultaneous soil excavation, installation of high-precision reinforced concrete lining, and grouting behind the tunnel lining, which ensures ground stability and settlement control. All stages of tunnelling are performed in strict compliance with the approved design solutions, technological regulations, and applicable construction standards.
CAI Interbudmontazh GmbH, acting as the general contractor of the project, ensures a high level of work quality and full compliance with industrial safety, environmental, and technical supervision requirements.
The implementation of the project represents a significant contribution to the development of Ashgabat’s engineering infrastructure and forms a reliable groundwater lowering system for the city’s future development.
