Reinforced concrete jacket between chambers K-17 and K-18
In the city of Ashgabat, as part of the construction of an underground collector system with a diameter of 3.0 meters, works are being carried out to install a reinforced concrete tunnel “jacket” designed to provide additional structural strengthening and increase reliability under conditions of heightened seismic activity in the region. To date, 20% of the reinforcement (“jacket”) installation works have been completed.
The design solution for the reinforced concrete “jacket” has been adopted taking into account the seismic activity of the construction area, where the design seismic intensity exceeds 9 points, as well as the hydrogeological conditions and durability requirements for underground structures.
The additional reinforced concrete strengthening increases the spatial stiffness of the tunnel, ensures uniform distribution of loads from the surrounding soil mass and groundwater, and enhances the structure’s resistance to dynamic impacts, including seismic vibrations.
The reinforced concrete “jacket” is installed over the primary tunnel lining and forms part of an integrated structural system. It provides:
– increased load-bearing capacity of the tunnel;
– improved crack resistance and deformation stability;
– additional protection of the primary lining against aggressive groundwater воздействие;
– enhanced operational reliability and extended service life of the structure.
As of today, installation of the reinforced concrete “jacket” is being carried out on the section between chambers K-17 and K-18, where 500 meters have already been completed. The works are performed in stages, in strict compliance with the design documentation, construction standards, and approved technological regulations.
