Construction work on the regulating structure on the Karakum River has been completed in Ashgabat — the hydraulic structure at the 793rd kilometer will provide a reliable water supply for the capital of Turkmenistan.
The structure comprises six spans equipped with hydraulic gates. A total of twelve gates, each measuring 5 × 3.5 meters, have been installed, and the capacity of the hydraulic structure is 181 cubic meters of water per second.
The completion of the works was marked with a ceremony at the site of the hydraulic structure. It was attended by representatives of the organizations taking part in the project and by the builders who worked on the facility.
A festive programme was prepared for the guests, and after the official part the participants in the ceremony inspected the structure. The opening of the hydraulic structure became a notable event for the capital and the whole region.
Construction work on the head structure was carried out from January 2024 to May 2026:
- construction of the diversion canal — 979.1 linear meters;
- earthworks — 660 000 cubic meters;
- concrete works — 7 148 cubic meters;
- installation of gates measuring 5 × 3.5 meters — 12 units;
- bed protection of the Karakum River — 420 linear meters;
- dispatch control point — 1.
The facility is operated from the dispatch control point: a monitoring system keeps track of the operation of the hydraulic structure, and backup power sources and secure communications are provided for uninterrupted service. This arrangement makes it possible to monitor the condition of the structure and to distribute water resources.
The completion of the regulating structure is the next step in the development of the water management infrastructure of Ashgabat and Turkmenistan. The facility brings together engineering solutions, automated control and digital monitoring intended to ensure reliable operation of the structure and rational management of water resources.
The use of modern materials and technologies ensures the durability and environmental performance of the structure. The automated control system allows water resources to be distributed efficiently, which is especially important for the region.
CAI Interbudmontazh notes the importance of its participation in the implementation of this project and the contribution of the completed construction works to the development of the country’s water supply infrastructure.
